beach?
Today was a fabulous day of work, involving floaties and measuring the depth of a pond on a property that we had to hike out to. Then lunch at the beach and a quick swim (to get all of the pond scum off) and then back to south lake to take ground water readings at another project site....but unfortunatly I took no pictures during all of that SO you get photos of the beach where my roomy and I rode our bikes after work:
I love that this is a 5 minute bike ride from my house. Tahoe is Awesome.

long day!
I'm sorry, I forgot. I didn't send the flower photo to myself but PERHAPS I will remember tomorrow! To be fair, of the 10 and a half hours I worked today, I spent only about 45 minutes of it in the office. All the rest was out "in the field" as we like to call it. I spent the day mapping trails on a CTC parcel and working on estimations of volume of fill needed to repair a badly eroding trail. The bright side: the trails led to the top of a rock overlooking the lake that was downright gorgeous. The down side: I probably hiked the equivalent of climbing that rock 4 times in my efforts to GPS all of the trails on this particular property. Anyway, because I have forgotten again to get a hold of yesterdays picture, today you get a bonus picture; because 2 is better than 1. Here are TWO lovely photos from my day, taken from the top of Eagle Rock overlooking Lake Tahoe.

mural
Tonight my roomy and I went to a little cafe called Free Bird and watched ET outside projected on a white sheet. We rode our bikes there and then haphazardly rode them home in the dark after with only one headlamp between the two of us (mines still in Africa, with allllll kinds of my other stuff) Anywho at the building where we watched the movie there was a mural. Try to figure out whats part of the mural and whats not:

heavenly
(this is for yesterday, today's will be posted later today)
Last night was the 20th anniversary gala fundraiser for the Tahoe Baikal Institute and I was invited to rub elbows with donors. There was a silent Auction, signature drinks, and the best part, it was held at the top of the tram at the lodge at Heavenly ski resort; so we spent the evening out on the balcony enjoying the fabulous band and watch the sun set over Lake Tahoe. Heres my favorite shot of the night:

i'm baaaack!
I know that it has been simply AGES since I updated this thing, and seriously, apologies all around! I have been working roughly 50 million hours a week and for my first month and a half here I had no internet at home. I do now though, and as promised, I will continue my challenge! it may be a little tough to get back in the swing of things but i'll do my best not to let you down again! First things first, here is some of what you missed:
Early morning fog at our spring training down in Coloma, CA. All of the pictures of flowers below are ones that I took at our campsite during our week of training:
Sunrise on our second or third to last day in Coloma.
The weekend after spending an 80 degree week in sunny Coloma, we were back in South Lake where we got snowed on some more. On the way back from a trip down to Carson City, NV to do some shopping I grabbed this shot of snow clouds over Lake Tahoe from highway 50.
I spent the snowy Friday before memorial day painting at Fredericks Cabin on fallen leaf lake. I couldn't resist snapping a shot of a rather white Mount Tallac sticking its head up into the clouds.
A short hike up to a sweet waterfall and my favorite picture of the day is this little guy, who must have had good luck begging from tourists before since he was not afraid to show off his round little belly to us. No, i did not feed him, in case you're curious.
The sunset at Fred's after our memorial day BBQ...still quite a bit of snow out there...
Nevada Beach in Stateline, NV. No place like Tahoe to lay in 80 degree sunshine and stare at snow covered mountains!
This is how I get to work in the morning, or at least its how I had to go when high spring flows flooded the bike trail I usually use. This is probably one of my favorite commutes ever.
Amazing waders for amazing ladies...somedays i quite enjoy this job.
Upper Truckee Marsh...just another day at work...
Last weekend I got to hang with TBI and go with them on their small plane trip around Tahoe. I rode shot-gun in a 4 person plane and snapped a few shots of the mountains and Emerald Bay while I was up there.
This one is the Tahoe Keys, the most unnatural creation I have ever laid eyes one. Its a neighborhood in which every house has their own boat slip. Interesting, but unfortunately not great for the environment.
And finally this one, the beautiful Bear River at my friend Lucy's house, where we camped last night and swam this morning, so yes, as this photo was taken today, it can be considered my first "photo of the day" since I quit sooo soooo long ago. that means its time for one of these:

Sad News!
Dear followers of my daily photo project:
As I have moved in to a house that does not have internet, and as I have limited access to the internet at this time, I think I might have to go on a short hiatus from my project for the time being. What does this mean? I will still be taking lots of photos, and I will still post some when I can, but I will not be counting these towards my one photo per day. Starting from the last photo I posted, I will count all of the days that I miss from then until I get internet at my house (1 month, tops....I hope...) and add them on to the end of my challenge. I have taken photos over the past week and a half that I am unable to post right now, but I will post them at some point, only I will not be counting them towards my one photo per day, as in the craziness of training I missed a few days (GASP!). So thank you for following, and keeeeep it up, this is NOT over....but i'm going to need some time to get back into a routine after starting a new job in my new home with no internet and lotsssss of stuff to do! Afterall, patience is a virtue!
Thanks for reading! More to come, oh so very soon! (....I hope....)

We spent the day cleaning out and fixing up the cabin that TBI (Tahoe-Baikal Institute) uses to house their summer program participants on fallen leaf lake. This is the view from the cabin:

i love food.
we all know i love taking pictures of my food, so heres a colorful shot of my lunch, a delicious garden salad with dried fruit and maple vinaigrette dressing, and a little bowl of grapes. Mom, these are the dishes you talked me into buying today. I didn't get the mugs, but I might go back for them because I really like them!

saturday night in
i treated myself to new glasses today, i guess they are tumblers, but i use them as wine glasses...no more jelly jars for my wine! They have a bubble in the bottom, and i took a picture of it. but it was boring. I don't like pictures of myself that much, usually I do my self portraits a little more abstractly, using reflections or movement to disguise myself in them. It took some effort to get a straight up self portrait that I liked, and even more to bring myself to post it. Here it is. I'm running out of things to take pictures of in my apartment here, but no worries, I'm moving again at the end of the month so you will not have to endure many more photos taken of my apartment or of me, soon I will have some new material. :o)

edu-ma-cation
Yes yes i know, I missed another day, wooooopsy! I stayed the night in Auburn with a friend and didn't have access to my computer...but I did take a photo. So here's yesterdays photo:
And then today I spend all day at school, teaching 2nd and 3rd graders all about the water cycle with the help of my lovely AmeriCorps sitemate, Sara. So for todays photo, a shot of that. This was an activity showing what quantities of water there are on earth, big bucket of salt water, 25 tbsp of fresh water, of that 25 only 8 tbsp are ground water, and only 10 drops are surface fresh water. Crazy!

Up to Winterland!
I've never lived anywhere quite like this before, where a brief one hour drive will take you up several thousand feet in elevation, to a town where its still winter. I hopped up to south lake tahoe today, took my photo of the day through my windshield on the way up. So pretty!

spinach and feta pockets!
The other day at the grocery store, I was inspired by a dish my grandma had made me before I came out here (spinach and feta in puff pastry) and what Melissa made last weekend (olive taupenade and herbed goat cheese in filo dough) and I bought spinach, feta, and some filo dough. I had a bunch of other bits and pieces left over from the veggie lasagna I made last week and this afternoon I just kinda made these up as I went along, and they came out pretty tasty! Heres a rough guestimate of the recipe:
- About 1/2 bag of Raw Spinach, torn up
- About half a can spinach (you can use all fresh, I just had canned left over from lasagna)
- Tub of crumbled feta
- A handful of diced sweet onion
- Seasoning to taste (I used salt, pepper, parsley, and a dash of nutmeg, cuz thats all i have)
- Filo dough, thawed
- Melted butter
Yummmmm!

Happy Easter!
Today I borrowed a friends family to spend my easter with, since mine was so far away! They were incredibly nice and welcoming and I'm so lucky to have been a part of their holiday! They even made me a little Easter basket and sent me home with hardboiled colored eggs! On the way home I caught my first glimpse of the golden gate bridge, and snapped a quick photo. It was cold and rainy here all day, and this photo reflects that pretty well, still, its the only one I took today so it'll have to do.
